What does an upgrade mean for your MacBook Air?
An Upgrade entails either replacing the Hard Drive with a solid-state drive (SSD) and replacing the random-access memory (RAM) where possible with a bigger one, and lastly upgrading your Operating System.
The reason to consider an upgrade is to improve performance, and storage and to access upgraded programs.
SOLID-STATE DRIVE (SSD)
A solid-state drive (SSD) is a new generation of storage devices. It is much faster than a traditional hard drive. Most models from 2017 and older have Hard Drive upgrade options. When you replace the Hard Drive with an SSD it can be up to 10 times faster. An SSD offer much faster data access than a Hard Drive and are less susceptible to physical damage as they contain no moving parts.

The reason why you should upgrade is to get access to new features. If you want to upgrade your macOS there are a few things to consider.

Even if upgrading is free rather ask a professional as you can end up with a frozen screen and your Mac can crash if there is not enough storage on your Mac to do so.
