Weekly Apple Mac Repair Requests. Week 3 Part 2. Updated 2023

Good day ZA Support Readers

We have received quite a few requests regarding liquid spillage on Macs.

The first question that comes to mind is I have spilled liquid on my Mac what now?

What to do first

– switch off your Mac and unplug it immediately

– use a cloth and wipe all liquid that you can see on your Mac

–  arrange for an assessment as soon as possible

–  if you are insured contact your broker to find out what the procedure is to claim

What not to do

–  do not use a hair dryer to try to dry the liquid as it can damage the Mac

–  do not use rice to try to absorb the liquid as it will cause more damage.

–  do not switch your Mac back on to test it as it can cause electrical damage to the Logic Board.

–  do not leave it for some time in the hope that it will dry up by itself.

–  just because the Mac might startup does not mean that the corrosion inside will automatically stop.

How to avoid liquid spillage

–  use a coffee mug that has a push-to-drink lever on it or try a spill-proof water bottle for refreshment.

–  invest in a keyboard cover.

Until next time when we will discuss another interesting repair request.
