Weekly Apple Mac Repair Requests. Week 1 Part 1. Updated 2023
Good day ZA Support Readers
It is the first of February and we have had quite a few interesting requests for repairs. In Part 1 of this week, we will deal with overheating.
The Issue
My Apple Mac is running hot and even switches off. Another one is the fan seems to be laboring and I can get the smell of something burning.
The question.
Why does my Apple laptop get so hot?
To avoid overheating consider the programs you run and where you place your Mac.
Reasons for overheating.
– software that strains your processor
– too many open browser tabs
– using your device near external heat sources.
Does overheating damage the Mac?
If your Mac overheats it can permanently damage the sensitive components in the laptop.
How hot is too hot for a MacBook?
Use your Mac where the temperature is between 50° and 95° F (10° and 35° C). Don’t leave your Mac laptop in your car, because temperatures in parked cars can exceed this range.
What happens if a Mac overheats?
Overheating can reduce the lifespan of your battery and possibly damage other internal components.
If your laptop smells like something is burning, this usually means that your computer is overheating. Turn it off and allow it to cool. If persisting seek professional help.
If you continue to use your laptop with a recurring overheating problem, it can cause permanent damage.
How to prevent your MacBook from getting too hot
- Don’t block the vents.
- Clean your MacBook’s internals.
- Don’t work in direct sunlight.
- Don’t open too many browser tabs.
- Minimize your multitasking.
- Check the Activity Monitor for misbehaving apps.
- Make sure your fans are working properly.
- Keep your MacBook up to date.
Until Part 2 of this week’s interesting requests.
